Overview

The program addresses competence in using multiple echocardiographic techniques in assessment of cardiac structure and function in acquired and congenital heart diseases. The format includes concise, clinically relevant didactic lectures followed by series of illustrative cases presented by experienced sonographers and echocardiography specialists that may lead to enhanced patient management. In addition, a variety of workshops are offered to demonstrate the techniques for acquiring echocardiographic data, especially with respect to new contemporary techniques such as strain imaging.

Learning Objectives

Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:
  • Demonstrate the application of Doppler principles to assessing hemodynamics
  • Assess quantitative valvular stenosis and regurgitation severity
  • Use of echocardiography to assess prosthetic valves
  • Recognize the role of echocardiography evaluation patients with suspected endocarditis
  • Demonstrate and interpret diastolic echocardiographic measurements
  • Define advantages of stress echocardiography and use of contrast
  • Apply echocardiographic principles in assessment of congestive heart failure
  • Identify echocardiographic features of common congenital heart abnormalities
  • Apply echocardiography to access patients with suspected pericardial disease
  • Define the role of echo in the interventional cardiology practice
  • Recognize the advantages and disadvantages of 3-D echo

The registration fee includes tuition, electronic course syllabus, continental breakfasts, break refreshments, and welcome reception. Although it is not Mayo School of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) policy to limit the number of registrants for a course, conference room facilities may necessitate closing of enrollment; therefore, early registration is advised.
